Nowhere to go and no place to call home

 They were resting apart, laid quietly within a small pond that was fed at both ends by a slow-flowing spring. It was calming and nice which she desperately needed after seeing the strange beings in the sky. Was it The Fates? They had appeared before and now they had appeared again. They hadn’t gotten the chance to speak about it with Aurora yet but they planned to. It was strange… not being afraid of such things now but instead curious. The presence of their friend already bolstered their confidence.

 The snake was curled loosely about their neck, part of their body floating in the water and part of it wrapped around the wolf’s bronze throat. It was peaceful, it was calm. Frogs croaked nearby and the bird warbled overhead… the world was quite lovely.

The man yawned as he woke up, stretching his body as he unearthed himself from a small fox den that he had found within the mountains. It was rather small for his liking, but he didn't have a real home, so he made anything he could find into a nightly room. As he moved out into the open though, he caught the scent of another and quickly curiosity got the better of him. The mountains sure seemed like there were very popular. Why, he didn't know, but he didn't mind it. He enjoyed meeting and talking to others, though did enjoy his own time sometimes. 

Moving closer to the scent, he saw another wolf, though one that had a snake around them. Well, that was interesting, did they know a snake was crawling over them? He would move slowly forward before speaking up, his voice thick with his accent. "'scuse meh ma'am, but did ya know dat dere be a snek on ya?" He didn't want to alarm them, but also didn't want them to get bit either.

 They heard the sounds of an approach, the footfalls of a wolf far heavier than themselves. For a moment, they felt a whisper of fear. They felt anxiety creeping in and wondered if they were to be chased away... but the feeling passed in an instant when they spoke. When that wolf called out to them. "Ma'am". A word heard before but one that held no meaning as they did not understand the implications of it, but knew that it was a polite term that others used sometimes.

 The Body would turn to look at the man and a small smile would grace their features. The wolf would nod their head and then the snake would turn towards the man, serpentine tongue flicking out to taste the air in the newcomer's direction. "Yesss... the snake is one with The Body." The creature answered in their hissing whisper. It was a common thing, that other wolves would be confused by their symbiosis. The wolves here were not bonded to their Souls as were the wolves of their old pack.

 "We are The Whisperer..." And to enunciate the snake's words, the wolf would give a friendly nod of of their head in greeting. The smile still remained as they watched the new wolf while they floated there in the water.

There wasn't much that surprised this man but he wouldn't like, this very much did. However, instead of freaking out at the snake talking to him, he simply just shrugged, moving to sit beside the water. "Well I can say dat ain't someting ya see 'ery day." He would look between the two of them, taking in her.... er... their name? Still, he would offer the creature a smile. "Nice ta meet ya'll Whisperer. Da name's Vincent. Vincent Ryder." He wasn't entirely sure where this wolf... was it a wolf?.. came from, but he wasn't going to get all up in their business either. 

"Enjoyin' da wada?" He knew he was and hoped that they were as well, they sure seemed like they were. Still, he would only place his toes in the water, never really one to get his whole body wet unless it was raining of he was taking a bath.

 They watched and then as they moved and sat nearer, they moved to be a bit closer so that they could see them more clearly. The other was composed of browns as well, but lighter in their overall appearance than The Body. ”Wolves of this world… they do not carry their Soulsss for all to see... but where we come from… it is common…” They either had not found them yet or they were within, as Vendrussel was. Although the latter seemed to be a special case, one who was like them but of a different branch of their culture.

 Vincent. That was the name of the wolf before them and they would nod. ”A pleasure to meet you…” The snake hissed and then uncoiled completely from around The Body’s neck, stretching out in the water in one fluid motion. The snake did not need to look at the wolf for The Body would convey all that was needed visually and in their shared tongue could communicate it.

 At his question, the wolf nodded their head pleasantly. Their smile genuine as a small hiss and then a series of barely audible grunts would leave their throat. ”Are you the sort to ssswim?” The snake would answer after only a heartbeat had passed.

The man was calm yet curious, having never met another like them before. Though, he wasn't entirely sure what to call them. They said their name was The Whisperer, but they called themselves the body? Nonetheless, he figured he would call them Whisperer, though he did have to say, it was an odd name. But than again, who was he to judge?

Glancing over at the snake, he would cock his head to the side in curiosity. "So if I'm gettin dis right, dat..." he pointed over at the wolf. "Is ya body? Nd dat..." he would point towards the snake, "Is ya soul?" He wasn't trying to be rude and was actually very interested in learning more about them. Duel colored eyes watched the snake, cocking his head to the side as he did. What an interesting little creature. Hearing the small creature's question, he would nod with a smile before slowly diving into the water. It was rather easy for him to swim and he did so, moving to swim around the snake and near the wolf. 

Strangely enough, he felt sure that the snake wouldn't bite him, though in any other circumstance, he probably would get as far away from the snake as possible.

 The Body would watch them as the other brown wolf motioned between the pair of them. The bronze swimmer would dip their head in an affirmative while the snake verbally added, ”That isss correct… two beings that are one…” Body and Soul, forever bound until the afterlife where they would be united. Unless this world or another claimed them once more. ”As it has always been for those of The Pack.” Though, as far as they could tell. No one else of their former pack was here.

 Thank the Fates.

 They had believed of the afterlife but after waking from death, they wondered if it would all just be a series of new lives over and over again. Had there been lives previously? Ones that they just couldn’t remember?

 The wolf was correct in his assessment of the snake, the scaled creature simply swam around the newcomer before coming back to rest against the flank of The Body. It was nice to have someone come join them in the water, they very much enjoyed the company. That much was clearly shown by the wolf cruising a little close and smiling to the other. They looked quite content, a wolf of the water. One who was in their natural element.

He was content swimming around, trailing after the snake for a few moments before it began to swim back to the wolf. He turned to swim next to the other wolf, a small smile on his face that showed how content he was currently. His fur would lightly touch the other unless they moved away though it didn't seem intentional, he was just having fun and relaxing and didn't notice. 

"How long have ya'll been in dis world?" He himself just arrived not that long ago, and he had quickly learned that popping up randomly wasn't uncommon. So, he wondered if they had done the same, knowing they weren't originally from this land. 

His head cocked to the side slightly as he would listen to their response, very clearly invested in the conversation.

 They noticed when their fur was brushed but they did not mind and showed no outward reaction. Touch was an important thing, important for bonding and showing trust. They were usually very attune to such things and took such a light brush as a positive sign. The other wolf was quite pleasant to talk to and as such they would not move away and would absorb all of the good energy coming from this interaction.

 They closed their eyes and listened to the question. There was a pause and then a small “discussion” between The Body and The Soul as they tried to figure it out. How long had they been here? ”We believe… perhapsss around a year? We travel with our companion and time passesss us by…”* In a haze almost… but a good one. A fulfilled one.

 The wolf would open their eyes and look at the other, there was a low murmur in their throat as they motioned with their head towards the newcomer. And you? Was the silent question.

He was happy to speak to someone who was this nice and willing to have a conversation. It seemed like now a days, that was a bit rarer than is should be. But for now, he would take what he could get. Glancing over at them, he would think for a moment before nodding. It seemed everyone may just suddenly appear here like he did. That was rather creepy to think about but there didn't seem to be anything they could do about it. 

"I ain't been 'ere long. Perhaps 'bout a week or so?" He honestly didn't care enough to figure out the exact time, after all there wasn't anything he needed to do. "Do ya know anytin bout the groups that call this area home?" He had caught scent of some groups on his travels through this area, but didn't care enough to go bother them. After all, last thing he needed was someone trying to fight him for some dumb reason.

 The groups around here? Hmm... They didn't know a lot but they did know some. For a moment, the snake and wolf seemed to converse amongst themselves. There were a series of hisses, tiny mutters and murmurs... And then the snake spoke, "We know of one that is likely near here... Our friend'sss pack." Vendrussel and their pack. "The Pack of Dragons." They'd never officially heard the name but knew that the blue wolf valued the old tales of dragons, so they felt it appropriate to label it as such. "Our friend... they are a good wolf." If he was looking for some place to call home, that's who she would send them to. If only she knew exactly where it was. "There are many other packs around... but we know nought of them..."

 The wolf would point their head southward, showing where they were indicating next. "There are also packsss to the south..." The wolf's ears would flick back, a nervous lick of their lips. "They are bad... vicious... we would advissse great care when going there..." They hissed in a cautionary whisper. They were certain that they had their reasons for attacking but it was best to give a warning. The last thing they would want was for Vincent to be hurt going there. That, however, was the extent of their knowledge.

Silently he would nod, taking in all the information he was given. His interested was peaked a bit as they talked about a pack of dragons? That certainly sounded interesting. Perhaps he would seek these dragons out and meet them one of these days. Today wasn't that day though. 

He cocked his head to the side slightly as she spoke of the evil packs, ones that seemed to claim the south. Well it was a good thing that he found a home in the mountains, now wasn't it? After they finished talking, he would smile, moving to bring his body entirely out of the water, shaking off the excess. "Thank ya vary much, dat information is greatly a'reciated. I should be gettin 'ome soon. Perhaps we can meet each otha' 'gain?" He would wait for their answer before turning to leave, now content that he had learned new information as well as gained a buddy that he could possibly spend some lonely days with.

 The wolf would smile, a silent "you're welcome" to the man as he exited the water. They were always happy to help wherever they could. "We would like that..." The snake intoned for them. "Safe travelsss..." They would say while the pair, Body and Soul, remained in the water. Their eyes would close and they would drift off into a peaceful nap. Later they would find Aurora and perhaps they would travel further.
