@Skuld
His chest rose with his first breath, and with it his brain awoke. His breathing was even and shallow as he tried to bring his muddled thoughts into a clear image. He didn’t seem to be able to move his body, but he wasn’t frightened by it. Actually, he was oddly calm.
The singing of a bird caught his attention, but his ears didn’t swivel as they normally would. That was interesting, but still didn’t alarm him. There was something that was telling him he was alright, and even if he didn’t know what that something was, he went with it. He didn’t feel any pain, so it might be right...right?
The bird continued the notes as Valdur tried to figure out exactly what was going on. He felt a warmth upon him that seemed to solidify the decision that he was okay, even if he couldn’t move yet. He did the only thing he could do: he listened. Joining the singing of the bird, he could hear the soft wind rustling up the grass around him. It brought with it his next sense: smell. The grass was fresh, and he instantly got the comforting image of springtime in his brain. The fluttering of wings and the fading of the song let him know the bird was leaving.
Valdur wasn’t aware of time, or how long he had been here, wherever “here” was. Slowly and all at once, his body took a deep breath and he was released from the invisible constraints. He rolled up onto his body, his ears perking and swiveling to and fro as his eyes took in his surroundings. It didn’t seem that far off from the image he had in his head. A grass-filled meadow, brightened by the sun above him. No wonder he had felt warm.
Still, he felt no panic, only confusion. How had he gotten here? Where had he been before this? No answers came to him readily. He looked around, hoping his eyes would give him the answers that his memories couldn’t.
