Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

back dated a bit to a month or so before Malolo's current posts

He allowed the waves to brush up to his legs, washing over his feet and filling his fur with salt. The sea-wolf's crisp orange eyes looked out onto the sea, analyzing it best he could from the shore. This place was likely not the best for swimming, sure, with all it's rocks and hidden things but, fish would often hide in places such as those.

The wolf's belly gurgled. He was hungry, and though the sky above turned with angry gray clouds, Malolo was ready for such a risk. An experienced swimmer such as himself felt as though he should encounter no issue. Simply run in, snatch a fish, and come ashore. All should be fine.

So as he said, he did. Splashing into the waves- paddling strongly with ready strides to overcome to power of the water. When he was out far enough, he would dive into the depths near the rocks. The salty water would sting for only a moment but, the pain would quickly subside.

His eyes would analyze best they could, trying to make sense of blurry images and shapes that went past. After a moment, he would come back up. Taking a deep breath of air while he looked down into the water. When the wolf spotted a small group of fish, all decent and edible sizes, he dove back down once more.

He paddled after them and as he narrowed in close enough to bite at their tails, the man gave no awareness to the rest of the water nor the beasts within it's depths.

A flash of silver and white caught the blurry peripherals, causing him to stop his fish chasing and stare into the deep blue. It stared back at him, empty and unfeeling. He stared at it still, confused as though he heard a knock at the door and answered- yet no one was there. He paddled idly for a second, though as he released the air in his lungs to dive deeper, so they did ache for the feeling of being filled again.

Before he could reach the surface, however, a hard blow to his side caused his heart to lurch in his chest. His head swung around as he pawed himself into a position where he could eye at his assailant. They widened when he saw the tail of something massive swirl past his face.

"What the fuck..." Was all he could think, trying to determine what this creature was. She was massive, enormous-

-monumentous, even.

Even the patterns she made in the water would move him, like shockwaves of her passing. He struggled hard to swim against them and had he not been an experienced swimmer, he would surely struggle more. If he were not terrified, he would be filled with shock and admiration for such a god-like creature. Tales of the Niuhi would fill his mind, stories told by other sea-faring wolves about sharks bigger than life. Creatures crafted by gods.

That is, if he could think about anything else other than his imminent death. His heart beat loudly, like a massive man was beating on a pahu drum in his ears. Instinctively, he would snarl at her but, quickly came to the disheartening and unnerving realization that she would not care.

He made thrashing movements towards the surface as his lungs further ached. The wolf's body would occasionally twitch and thrash, a sign that every cell in his body was begging for air. The panic in his chest didn't make it any easier and it showed more by the way he moved. Like a feather toy tangling before a readied cat, he could do nothing but helplessly plead for his life with every stroke of a paw.
