Hibernation was not a single event — sleeping and then waking up. It was a long, slow process of returning to awakeness. She stumbled out every few days, blinking and stiff and weak. Each time it would be longer and longer, with her mind returning to alertness quicker each time she stumbled out of sleep. Her daughters were slower in the process, though she wasn't surprised. It had been their first time in the Long Sleep, and Mooksgm'ol had to nudge them out of the den each time to ensure that their limbs didn't seize up.
She realized immediately that she had not returned, and she couldn't hide her disappointment. She wanted to return to the land she knew and introduce her daughters to her homeland, rather than remain in this strange place, no matter how welcoming its inhabitants could be.
But there was little she could do.
It was really a week or so after she'd first woken up that she felt ready to venture down the slopes. It was only then that she realized how big her daughters had grown in the intervening months. Siilgit was far taller than she had expected, with rich brown fur and a stocky build. Ts'iwaangit was of a decent size for her age and had her father's color — a vibrant dark red.
Water would be the first thing they needed, then food. And then, when they were ready, she'd return to the Royal Wisteria Woodland and greet the Queen @Célnes once more. She wondered what the pack had been up to while they were Asleep. She hoped that the threat that the Queen had been concerned about had not manifested.
