The night was startlingly dark but cloudless, perfectly framing the bright red moon that hung bloated in the middle of the sky. It would be far more of a haunting visage than it already was had he never seen it before. It was a bit of a perplexing rarity sure, but nothing new; the moon changed colors every now and again, for various reasons he wasn't privy too.
He wasn't the stargazing type.
Still... In this situation, it did haunt him a little more than it usually would, the red hue portrayed an unsettling and unnatural mood, ever so slightly dying the shimmers in the lake water red. Laying betwixt the brush and the lake's shore with most of him well blended with the earth (save his white points), his chin settled on one of his paws as his eyes stared up at it in idle thought. The ivory antlers of the fallen elk he'd dressed lay comfortably at his feet, another one of his paws protectively brushing against it.
Again he was trying to recall more of what led up to this sudden shift in reality, but it was as good as useless a venture anymore. Nothing was coming to mind, not a fucking thing.
Maybe it would come to him someday, maybe it wouldn't. Either way, he couldn't keep lamenting on memories he'd seemingly lost, even if there would always be that nagging feeling of him having forgotten something. It was beyond time to move forward, just as he had after the burn. Find purpose once again. Live on.
Where he was going he wasn't so sure yet, but the scent of another pack wafted in on the wind whenever it came from the north or the east.
