Yael didn't know where she was at first. It was dark, muggy, and humid. Yet the sky didn't pray-tell what time of day it was until her eyes had been forced open, the hiding sun behind a barrier of clouds gleaming. She'd squint, groaning as her muscles ached with fury as she attempted to move.
She was trapped beneath a fallen tree, soaked with a previous night of rain. The soil of the earth called to her quietly, beckoning her to stay, but she would not answer. She had to get up. Yael would weave, squirm, until she had almost been free. But she needed to catch her breath. With an aching body, she was no use to the might of the fallen tree.
Her head hit the ground with a thump, soft as it hit the woodchips, and her eyelids fluttered.
